Although the article is taken from “The Independent” and is about a scientific theme, it is very subjective. Anne Treneman uses only little technical terms, appeals to the reader and also shows her own opinion in a lot of comments. The article seems like a direct talk to the reader, there is no distance, so the speech is very vivid. Because of that it is a consequence that the text is written in colloquial language.
But not only by that the author attract and keep the reader’s attention. The article is easy to read, because of its well structure. The sentences in general are rather short and when she comments things the text structure is still simple, but longer. Also when Anne Treneman gives back the scientist’s answers, she does this by direct speech, what makes the text even more vivid.
But the article also keeps the reader’s attention, because the author humanizes the theme by mentioning the scientist’s private motives. The reader could easily follow her thoughts, so that he or she would ask the same questions ask Anne Treneman asks. By comments in which she questions the scientist’s statements critically, for example when he simplifies and distorts the facts, the reader starts to trust Anne Treneman and her opinion. The reader doesn’t feel manipulated. He or she feels directly spoken spoken to by a friend.
Because of that, there aren’t used many stylistic devices, without some catchwords like “Designer Child” (l.79) or the term “Cloning is going to be better than sex” (l.42).

    5. “Is it a sin?”

I am of the opinion that it is a sin, although you could help people with genetic engineering, for example by healing diseases, especially hereditary diseases, helping people, who want a child and in the legal medicine, where it helps to find criminal offenders.
But: the Ten Commandments is say that you shouldn’t murder, but the death of embryos is accepted in genetic engineering. This is also against the respect of every life.
Although you could help an ailing (leidend) person, you debase the embryo. Also there are a lot of dangers, which could make it a sin. The consequences are not measurable. Genetic engineering could change the life on earth incalculable, threat the individuality and the diversity of species. Perhaps one day, there will be discrimination against people, which are called “naturals” in the article. Also there is the danger of misuse and the danger of loosing the respect for god, because genetic engineering is playing god, further more it calls the natural personhood (god’s work) in question, his natural processes get modified.

Bin grade zu müde, um das alles durchzulesen, komme grade von der Nachtschicht, bisschen Geld verdienen in den Ferien. Aber statt "theme" würde ich unbedingt "topic" schreiben.

    Viele Grüße
